I'm a sucker for catchy tunes and addictive dance moves and this is the reason I am in love with K-pop. Korean music composers and song writers are the kings of creating songs that will stick with us day and night and today we're going to take a look down memory lane of all the songs that we just couldn't get out of our bodies and minds.
Girls' Generation's "Gee" will always be my all-time favorite song by these 9 beauty machines. Everything from the outfits, to the adorable and cute dance moves, to the insanely catchy chorus, "Gee" became an instant hit amongst fans world-wide. The single set a record for being #1 on KBS's Music Bank for 9 consecutive weeks and was a huge hit on various music charts. The music video was viewed over 101 million times on YouTube and was the most viewed K-pop video of all time until Psy's "Gangnam Style" took over. Gee what a feat! Pun most definitely intended.
Wonder Girls "Tell Me" made me fall in love with this group and the song skyrocketed them into new heights. The single placed them on a level that no girl group could compete with, and they quickly became the females to beat. "Tell Me" eared them a triple crown on SBS's Inkigayo and shot them to the #1 spots on music charts, both online and offline. The song's simple choreography is what captivated people around the globe and was mimicked by some of the least likely folks in the world, including cops!
Brown Eyed Girls "Abracadabra" was a home-run for the 4-membered beauties. Sexily clad outfits, sensual dance moves, and controversial scenes completely worked for the Brown Eyed Girls and launched them to the top of the charts. The single won the "Mutizen Song" award on SBS"d Inkigayo in addition to bagging the "Best Dance/Electronic Song of the Year" at the 2010 Korean Music Awards. "Abracadabra" was a huge success for the ladies and put them back on the K-pop map.
2PM's "Again and Again" is still to this day, one of my favorite songs of all time and began my obsession with these 7-membered hunks. Though 2PM had debuted with "10 out of 10," it wasn't until the release of "Again & Again," that these boys were got noticed and became a household name. Though it wasn't as huge of a hit as the other songs mentioned above, the choreography to the track was just as addictive as the all the other hits on our list today.
I can't close out this post without mentioning Psy's "Gangnam Style." What more could I say that you already don't know about the song's popularity, universal success, and kick-ass singer? "Gangnam Style" is by far the most recognizable Korean song of all time and is currently the Asian artist to top.
